Account & Data Deletion

Last updated: 17 July 2026

This page explains how to delete your BandUp account and the personal data associated with it. You can delete your account at any time, for any reason, directly in the app — no email or waiting period required.

Delete your account in the app. Open BandUp and go to Settings → Delete account. Deletion is immediate and permanent.

Before deleting, you can choose “Email my data, then delete” to receive a copy of your data first — your band reports and exam transcripts, sent to your account email as a ZIP archive.

How to delete your account in the app

  1. Open BandUp and sign in.
  2. Go to the Settings tab and tap Delete account.
  3. Choose whether to receive a copy of your data by email first (Email my data, then delete) or to delete without a copy.
  4. Confirm. Your account and data are deleted immediately.

Getting a copy of your data

When you choose Email my data, then delete, we email a ZIP archive to your account address before anything is deleted. The archive contains:

  • one readable HTML file per scored mock exam — your estimated band scores, per-criterion feedback and improvement suggestions;
  • the full transcripts of your exam answers;
  • a machine-readable data.json with the same data.

Voice recordings are not included in the archive (they are too large to email); they are deleted along with the rest of your data. If the export email cannot be delivered, your account is not deleted, so you never lose data you asked us to send.

If you can’t access the app

  1. Send an email to privacy@band-up.app from the email address you use to sign in to BandUp (this lets us verify the request).
  2. Use the subject line “Delete my account”.
  3. We may contact you to confirm the request before we proceed. Once confirmed, we delete your account and data as described below, generally within 30 days. You can also request a copy of your reports and transcripts in the same email.

What gets deleted

When your account is deleted, we remove the personal data tied to it, including:

  • your account details (email address and any linked Apple/Google sign-in identifier);
  • your voice recordings and the transcripts generated from them;
  • your mock exam sessions, timings, questions and answers;
  • your estimated band scores, written feedback and progress history;
  • your in-app settings and notification preferences.

What may be retained

We may retain a limited amount of information after account deletion where we are legally required or permitted to, specifically:

  • Transaction and billing records — records of purchases may be retained for the period required by tax, accounting and consumer-protection law. Note that these are held by the app stores as well.
  • Fraud and abuse prevention — minimal data needed to prevent repeat abuse or to enforce fair-use limits.
  • Aggregated or anonymised data — information that no longer identifies you and cannot be linked back to you (for example, anonymised service-cost records).

How long it takes

In-app deletion takes effect immediately. Email requests are completed within a reasonable period after verification, generally within 30 days. Residual copies in encrypted backups are purged on our normal backup rotation, typically within 90 days.

Cancelling a subscription

Deleting your account does not automatically cancel an active subscription, because subscriptions are billed and managed by the app store, not by BandUp. To cancel or manage a subscription, use your app store’s subscription settings:

  • App Store (iOS): open Settings → your name → Subscriptions → select BandUp → Cancel subscription.
  • Google Play: open the Play Store app → your profile icon → Payments & subscriptionsSubscriptions → select BandUp → Cancel subscription.

Cancel your subscription before deleting your account to avoid further charges.
